Local Activities
There are leisure pursuits available within the area to suit most tastes. The local village has a tennis court and for those who enjoy 'messing about on the river', there is canoeing and kayaking on both the Lot and the shallower waters of the Célé. There are several natural river 'beaches' close by from which you can swim and paddle, and the 'plan d'eau' at Cajarc offers water-skiing and wind-surfing. Cycling too is a delightful way to explore the countryside.

There are excellent bird watching opportunities as well as river and lake fishing for those seeking less strenuous activities. The Vallée du Lot is a haven for painters and photographers, boasting as it does some of the most spectacular views in France. Alternatively you can sit back and enjoy the scenery by taking one of the flat-bottomed riverboats, or 'bateaux mouches' that run from Bouziés at the foot of St Cirq Lapopie through to Cahors and beyond.

For those who wish to pursue the gastronomic delights of the region, numerous local restaurants offer excellent food at reasonable prices. Or if you prefer, shop in the local markets for delicious fresh fruit and vegetables in season and sample the local delicacies of pate foie gras, confits and truffles together with the dark red wine of Cahors, the perfect accompaniment to local dishes.

Boating
The forty mile stretch of the river Lot downstream from St. Cirq Lapopie has recently been reopened to pleasure boats, which you can hire for the day. There also boat trips available from Cajarc, Bouzies and Cahors. Canoes/Kayaks You can hire canoes and kayaks at numerous places both on the river Célé and on the Lot. The closest places are by the bridge over the Lot at Tour de Faure or on the river Célé between Cabrerets and Sauliac-sur-Célé. Some places offer ‘one-way’ trips. Cycling Not only great fun but also an immensely popular French sport and widely practiced in the valley, despite all the hills. Cycles can be hired a few minutes away at Lotabike in Tour de Faure. It's on the right just after the left turn to St. Cirq Lapopie. Horse Riding There are several stables nearby with numerous idyllic tracks to follow. Fishing There is wonderful fishing on the river Lot. If you fancy a lake, there is a small one very close by (2 miles) at Nougayrac and a very large one at the Lac du Bannac (approx 15 miles) on the right halfway between Limogne and Villefranche-de-Rouergue; about a mile after Marroule. Holiday fishing permits for the river Lot and Lac at Nougayrac, are available from the shop in Cénevières and the PMU café in Cajarc. For the Lac du Bannac, the permits are available onsite. |
Walking The land around Genévrier and of course the whole area is a walker's paradise. Just step outside the front door and off you go. The landscape is littered with 'green lanes' or footpaths offering wonderful views. Tennis There is a tennis court in St. Martin Labouval. It’s free to use and you just turn up and play. |
